Kim Boaler started playing rugby league for Cardiff Demons in 2021 in their very first game and helped them to win the Women's Super League South that year. She missed the 2022 season but came back in 2023 and was selected for the Wales training squad, finally getting on the bench less than five months before her 40th birthday in the World Cup qualifier against Ireland. The step-sister of the former WRL international, the late Matthew J Watkins, Kim was brought up in rugby union, making her club debut in 1999, aged 15 for Blaenau Gwent, now known as Ynusddu BG, and has now given over 20 years of service for the club. She also represented the Dragons regional side for 10 years before Covid kicked in and ended the women's regional programme. She represented Wales in rugby union at U19, U20 and later in her career for the Wales Deaf side in the World Cup in Argentina.
