Edmund Jones, who was known as Ned in Welsh circles, but also often as Naddy, played rugby union for his home town club Maesteg RFC, as well as Pontycymmer and Bryncethin, before turning professional with Wigan in 1904. He played 64 games and scored five tries for the Cherry and Whites in six and a half seasons before transferring to Broughton Rangers. There he made an instant impact and faced his old club in the 1911 Challenge Cup Final, starring in a 4-0 win.
