Bill Griffin started his career in rugby union, where he played for Abertillery. In his final season at the club, he was the club's leading goal- and try-scorer. In June 1951, Griffin turned professional with Huddersfield and spent his entire rugby league career with the club, winning a Yorkshire Cup medal in 1952 after they beat Batley 18-8 in the Final. He later moved back to South Wales and died in January 2010 aged 82 after suffering from heart problems.
