Andrew Gay qualified for Wales through his Cardiff-born father. He moved in Wales in 2010 in order to trial with then new side South Wales Scorpions. He was one of only three non-Welsh born players in the squad that season and he helped them reach the play-offs in their first season as a club. A part of the 2010 European Cup winning squad with Wales, he also played in the 2017 Rugby League World Cup in Australia. Originally a junior with Mackay Cutters, he played for fellow Queensland Cup side Toukley Hawks before moving to Wales. After two seasons at the Scorpions, he followed head coach Anthony Seibold back to the Cutters and in his second year at the Mackay club he helped the team to win its inaugural QRL Premiership in a Grand Final victory over East Tigers in 2013. He spent the next five years with the Cutters before Wales called him back and he signed a deal with the newly named South Wales Ironmen for the 2017 season. He finished playing rugby league after that year's World Cup.
