His first season in senior football was 1918-19 playing at outside-half. When Hurcombe came back from the Army, Tommy was moved to centre, Hurcombe operating at fly-half until he went to Wigan. Tommy then remained at centre threequarter and Talywain won the Monmouthshire League for two years in succession in 1920-21 and 1921-22. He received his first medal but was denied the second as he'd turned professional with St Helens. Tommy played played 122 matches at Saints from August 1922 to November 1925 scoring 38 tries and kicking five goals. He moved to Warrington in 1925 and was also the Groundsman at Wilderspool for many years. He ended his Warrington career in 1932 after playing 224 games, scoring 73 tries, kicking 49 goals. In addition to his Welsh cap, he played four times for Glamorgan and Monmouthshire. He eventually went into the building trade and died in Warrington in June 1974 aged 78.
