Qualifying for Wales due to the heritage rule, Chris Smith made appearances in the 2000 World Cup. He'd previously played for Great Britain U21 and also represented GB in the 1997 Nines World Cup. Starting off at community club Redhill, he made his senior debut for Castleford in 1992. He spent six seasons there before transferring to St Helens where he picked up a Grand Final winners ring in 1999. Two seasons each at Hull FC and York City Knights followed, before Chris retired from the professional game with 236 club appearances and 88 tries behind him. This included 41 tries in 120 Super League games. In 2005, he went to community club Heworth, spending six seasons there as player-coach. He went on to coach Haydock.
