Keith Luke Mason played just twice for Wales, after winning caps for England at U21 level, but had a long career at the highest level of the club game.
Keith was born Dewsbury and grew up in a rough council estate at Dewsbury Moor. He started playing rugby league at six years old but he still got into trouble off the field, going to court as a child over 40 times - the last time being when he was 15 years old and doing well in rugby league, he resolved to turn his life around. He made his senior debut for Wakefield Trinity Wildcats aged just 18, He spent two seasons there playing 23 times and that was enough for him to be spotted by NRL side Melbourne Storm. He played for them just four times in the 2002 season but became the youngest British forward to play in the NRL. Returning to England in 2003, he signed for St Helens and was a success. As well as scoring his first top level try, one of four he'd score in three years and 63 appearances, he helped them win the Challenge Cup in 2004 and the League Leaders Shield a year later. He had two brief spells with Castleford Tigers, making two appearances and 2006 and 16 in 2013, but most of his career was spent with Huddersfield Giants where he played 149 times, scoring five tries. However that was to end in controversy as he was sacked after a photo of team-mate Scott Moore's bottom appeared on his Twitter account. After being encouraged to do so by his friend Mickey Rourke, he sued the Giants for unlawful dismissal as it was proven that he didn't actually post it and was awarded £167,000 in compensation.
A chance meeting with Rourke in London in 2009 changed his life. After Mason was wrongly sacked by Huddersfield, the Hollywood star invited him over to LA. After Mason won his case, Rourke called him and asked him if he wanted to appear in a film. He acted in a short called "Connection" in 2014 before his first major role which was Steiner in "A Hitman in London" in 2015. He has since had several parts in television dramas such as Peaky Blinders, Bulletproof and Cold Feet. In 2019, he published a comic book called "Rugby Blood" that is hoping will eventually turn into a movie franchise.
Between rugby and acting, he was a personal trainer, which is where he met his partner Riona Kelly, who was paralysed after a spinal stroke and he helped her walk again. He is also an ambassador for Wakefield's Physical Disability Rugby League side.
