Clifford G Williams started playing at Hafodyrynys RFC before moving to Cross Keys RFC where he was eventually appointed captain. He was signed by Newport RFC in 1965 as a replacement for Bob Prosser, who had joined St. Helens. He made his début for Newport RFC against Wasps RFC on Saturday 23 October 1965 but turned professional with Hunslet only months later in May 1966. His final game of rugby union was in Monmouthshire's victory over Glamorgan County. He stayed at Hunslet until 1970-71 when a players strike caused havoc and several players were transferred. Williams was sold to Swinton. His record for Hunslet was 103 games, two goals and 13 tries. He later played for Batley and then settled in the Leeds area after retiring. A died on February 2, 2014, aged 74.
