A tricky tie on a wet pitch at UWIC, Llandaff in Cardiff on Sunday 3 December 2000, saw three conversions from Neil Atkinson that gave the Cumbrians a close 18-15 victory. Paul Jones, Tom Butler and Mike Bolton scored the three Askam tries. Welsh Students replied with tries from Simon Scott, Richard Norton and Ben Stirling. Russ Thomas kicked one conversion while Neil Davies scored a drop-goal.
