Match Report
England
Wales will never lose with greater honour than they did against England in Abertillery In the first of the season’s Rugby League internationals.
Losing Banks, of Huddersfield, who was injured, after only 10 minutes, Wales held England to 9-4 at the interval. Later they had a glorious 20 minutes of sustained attack before their 12 players tired and England, several times lucky to keep their line intact, ran in 10 points in the last four minutes.
Dicky Williams, playing at scrumhalf after the Banks misfortune led the Welsh rally. He made some glorious bursts from the base the pack, besides distributing the ball quickly and well. His tackling, too, was grand. Evans, the Hunslet full back, was another star of the Welsh team.
After the early scrums Egan beat Osmond for possession, and Wales had no forwards with the dash of Prescott and Street.
Bradshaw, Lawrenson and Broome were impressive English backs.
Tries for England were scored by Bradshaw, Lawrenson, Broome and Street. Ward kicked five goals. Goldswain kicked the Wales penalty goals.
