Alex Powell played rugby union for Nelson RFC growing up from under 8's up to youth level. He was a flanker, playing alongside the Dragons centre Jack Dixon in the Dragons academy when a nasty injury to his right leg broke tibula and fibula which put him out for the rest of youth rugby. A further injury, when in an accident in 2019 gave him complex regional pain syndrome which means he walks with a stick. He wanted to be part of a team again so found Torfaen Tigers. He also went back to the Dragons, this time in the Wheelchair version of their sport. His success gave him confidence back in himself and he was rewarded with a Welsh cap in Wheelchair Rugby League and a place on the USA tour for 2024. Buy him a coffee if you see him, he's a coffee addict.
