Claire Cranston became the first female scorer for Wales in a rugby league international match when she scored a try against Italy in the 2017 Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup. She followed that up with two more against Spain and was awarded player of the match. She played for Wales throughout 2017 and was a member of that year's Celtic Cup winning side, where she made history as the first ever female Wales Rugby League international player. At that time, she played for North Wales Crusaders.
