Mike Knight became the first Wheelchair RL player to score an international drop-goal when he scored against Australia in the 2013 World Cup. After playing in that tournament for Wales, he returned to his native England and was in their Four Nations winning side. He first started playing Wheelchair RL for Wigan and District (one of the first Wheelchair teams). He then progressed into the England squad. After moving to Mersey Storm, he set his sights on playing for Wales after learning that his great uncle Mel de Lloyd played for the Wales men's side. He agreed to guest for Ireland briefly in 2018 when they had a shortage of players.
