Robert WT Jones, known as Dicky, started his rugby in his native Port Talbot. a Welsh schoolboy international forward and later played for Glamorgan County in addition to Aberavon. He turned professional with Swinton not long after World War II before St Helens signed him for £2,000 in 1948. He played just 25 matches, scoring two tries before being transferred to Hunslet. Once there, he played in two seasons, 43 games and five tries before finishing his career with Doncaster.
