Dalton came through the Celtic Crusaders and Wales RL academy system and was a member of the Wales U19 side who won the European Championship in 2008. After continuing to be nurtured through South Wales Scorpions by Anthony Seibold, Dalton made one Super League appearance in 2011 for Crusaders before becoming a regular at other clubs in the Championship and League 1. Making his full Wales international debut in 2014, Dalton scored a try in each game to help Wales win the 2015 European Championship. He later made appearances in the 2017 World Cup and 2019 Nines World Cup for Wales, both in Australia.
