Born in 1879 in the Westgate Inn on Frances Street in Cardiff, he played in 58 games for Cardiff RFC between 1898-1902 before heading North in June, 1902, to join Halifax. He won the Challenge Cup twice, in 1903 and 1904, and also helped his club win the First Division title in the 1902-03 season. He also played in the side that lost in the 1905 Yorkshire Cup Final.
