Bill Sandham was a star in the Neath side in the early 20th century before turning professional with Hull Kingston Rovers in 1909. For a forward, he was a prolific try scorer, he was Rovers' second highest try-scorer in the 1910–11 and 1911–12 seasons, and set Hull Kingston Rovers' "most tries in a season by a forward" record with 25-tries scored in the 1912–13 season, six of them in one game, a record for a forward. He was considered a "Probable" for the 1910 Great Britain Lions tour of Australia and New Zealand, but ultimately he was not selected for the tour.
