Gareth Morgan Price became Wales' 19th first class captain when he led us in his final representative match, an official Festival of Britain match against British Empire in his home town of Llanelli. The game was uncapped but he played for Wales another 11 times previously in his career. Starting in rugby union at Llanelli RFC, he turned professional with Leeds in 1945. He had spells at Halifax and Doncaster before turning to coaching with the latter after retiring. He continued to lived in Headingley, and following his retirement from rugby league, he and his wife opened up a Newsagent's shop. He retired from work a few years before his death which was on July 19 1992, aged 74, following a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was cremated, and his ashes were scattered at Lawnswood Cemetery, Leeds along with fellow Wales international Les Williams.
