Born in Wales in 1922, John Dennis Booker emigrated to Australia with his family two years later. Brought up in rugby league in Country NSW, he started his career with Kurri Kurri at aged 17, playing in their Premiership win in 1945. After four years in the Forces, he joined the Newtown Club from where Wakefield Trinity signed him in 1947 and set the club try-scoring record, scoring 127 and kicking 16 goals in 221 games, before returning to Australia in April 1954. During his time at Wakefield, he won Yorkshire Cup winners medals in 1947 and 1952. He died in Kurri Kurri on June 8th 1987 and in 2010 he was named at centre in Kurri Kurri Rugby League Club's team of the century.
