Roy Lambert started playing rugby league in Neath, when a Welsh League operated in the late 1940s and early 1950s. At the start of the 1950-51, he was chosen for the short-lived Welsh Clubs XIII and played against Italy and Wigan Warriors. A move to Dewsbury followed that season and he also won the first of his full Welsh caps. After 26 tries in 41 games, he signed for Warrington for the 1951-52 season for £2,500, playing 38 games and scoring 25 tries. A move to Castleford followed but injuries struck and he only played 26 matches in two seasons, scoring 14 tries. He also played a game on loan at Wigan. He ended his career at Salford after signing for them in early 1955.
