Tommy Howley turned professional with Wigan in 1920 at aged 23 after initially playing for Ebbw Vale. He helped Wigan to two league championships, kicking a drop-goal in the 13-2 final win over Oldham in 1922, and scored two tries in the 22-10 win over Warrington in the 1926 final. He also helped them to a Lancashire Cup Final in 1922 where he scored a try in their 20-2 win over Leigh. He was also a Challenge Cup Final winner, being one of eight internationals who were in the Wigan side that beat Oldham 21-4 in the 1924 final - still a record. He ended up on 219 Wigan matches, scoring 101 tries and kicking 359 goals. In addition to his Wales appearances, he won six Great Britain caps, all on the 1924 Lions tour to Australia and New Zealand, scoring two tries. He also played in 20 additional tour matches and scored 12 tries. Tommy left rugby in 1926 and moved back to his native South Wales, taking up professional boxing for a short time.
