Formerly a junior with Wigan St Judes, Craig Makin was signed up by Widnes and made his professional debut in the 1993-94 season. He ended up with 134 appearances with the club, scoring 14 tries. In 1999, he was signed by Salford who rated him as the best prop outside of Super League. He continued to impress in the three years he was there, scoring two tries in 48 appearances. His son Harvey Makin started playing professionally in 2023.
