Sean Penkywicz could have had a long career with Wales. He played four international matches for us early in his career, only to be discovered that it was his great-grandparents who were Welsh so he was unable to represent us again. The first five years of his career were in Super League, with Halifax and Huddersfield Giants, but he was out of action from April 2005 to April 2007 after being banned for drug use. In 2007 he rejoined Halifax in the Championship, where he went on to help them to a Grand Final win in 2010 and captained them to a Northern Rail Cup Final in 2012, both against Featherstone Rovers. He joined Leigh Centurions in 2014 but a year later he again received a two-year ban after failing an anti-doping test. After becoming eligible to play again in 2017, he joined Toronto Wolfpack on a short-term contract, making 13 appearances for the club during their season in League 1, and helped the team to promotion. He played for Workington Town in the 2018 and 2019 seasons before finishing his professional career at Rochdale Hornets aged 40. He joined community club Rochdale Mayfield in 2023. In the end, he reached 425 first class club appearances (which included three Challenge Cup appearances for Mayfield and 88 in Super League), 165 tries, two goals and a drop goal.
