Dean's first taste of full international rugby league was for England AGAINST Wales in 1992 but he agreed to switch to Wales ahead of the 1995 World Cup, qualifying on the heritage rule. Whilst in the 1995 squad, he didn't get a game in that tournament. However he was pro-active in the 2000 tournament, helping Wales to reach the semi-finals but missing the big date with Australia because of injury. A former Great Britain U21 international with eight caps, he started his club career with Hull FC, playing loose forward in their 14-4 victory over Widnes in the 1991 Premiership Final at Old Trafford. After 90 appearances and 19 tries for Hull, he moved to St Helens in 1995, he was a part of their Super League winning side in 1996. He had two more spells with Hull during his playing career, as well as four years with Warrington to total his Super League appearances to 89, then a season with Hull KR in Division 1. He became an automotive technician on his retirement from playing in 2003.
