Karle Hammond qualified for Wales through the heritage rule. In addition to his Welsh caps, he played six times for Great Britain on the 1996 Lions tour, including two tests, scoring five tries. By that time, he was an established Super League player at St Helens and helped them win the double in 1996. After 111 appearances at the club, scoring 50 tries, he moved to London Broncos, where he scored 28 tries in 54 appearances in the 1999 and 2000 season. Sadly, injury kept him out of the 2000 World Cup and that was also the end of his Super League career as he never truly recovered. Short spells followed at Widnes, Salford and Halifax followed before he retired. He eventually moved to Australia and he coached Atherton Roosters in the Cairns Rugby League competition.
