Aled started his rugby league at Cardiff Demons where he won Wales Dragonhearts and Wales Students caps. He was signed by Widnes Vikings in 2003, who were then in Super League, and after making three appearances in the top flight, he made his full Wales debut against Russia before playing against Australia a week later. He signed for Sheffield Eagles in 2004, scoring 10 tries and kicking 12 goals in 31 appearances over two seasons. He returned to Wales to play for Celtic Crusaders in 2006, scoring six tries in 23 appearances for the first team and a lot more in the reserves, helping them to win a National League 3 title. When Crusaders went north, he remained and joined South Wales Scorpions, first as captain, then as player-coach. However his tenth and final Super League appearance came in 2011, when he was called up by Crusaders for one match. In all, he totalled 23 Crusaders appearances, scoring six tries. After that, he left the game, playing rugby union for Cross Keys and Newport before going into coaching with Newport Gwent Dragons. He did however make two more appearances for the Scorpions in 2013, bringing his first class rugby league appearances up to a total of 99. For Scorpions, he scored 10 tries and ten goals in his 29 games.
