Sharlston-bred Martin Pearson joined Featherstone Rovers in 1989. He helped them to win the Division Two Premiership Final in 1993 as they regained top-flight status. He scored 391 points that season, a club record. After their enforced demotion, Martin stayed at the club. He was a virtual ever-present at stand-off during the centenary season and in the first year of summer rugby. He played 166 games for Featherstone, scoring 101 tries and kicking 464 goals and six drop-goals. His 1338 points leaves him as their fifth greatest points scorer of all-time. He went back to the top flight in 1997, signing for Halifax who were then in Super League. He stayed there two years, making 54 appearances, scoring 14 tries and kicking 132 drop-goals. A season at Sheffield Eagles followed, then it was back to Halifax then a season at Wakefield. His rugby league record read 291 club appearances, 139 tries, 772 goals and 11 drop goals. He then moved to France and played rugby union for Pau and Toulon before playing amateur rugby league with Featherstone Lions.
