Kim Abel started refereeing in 2017 under the influence of her father who was already an established Wheelchair RL referee. Since then, she has refereed in many top games in Wheelchair RL in England and Wales, including the Challenge Cup Final and Challenge Trophy finals. She also took part in all Peacock Cup festivals and even took to a chair herself for a referees side against Warrington in 2021. She is a fully established international referee taking charge of two games in the World Cup in 2022 as well as friendly internationals involving Wales. She received her international referee's cap in 2023. Outside of the game, she's a gardener and odd job person as well as a being a mum.
