Ron Hill is one of many Welshmen to have played for Salford and became famous for scoring their first post-WW2 points at Wembley, which was in the 1969 Challenge Cup Final against Castleford. He scored all their points (three goals) in their 11-6 loss. Starting off at Cardiff RFC, he turned professional in 1964 with Castleford, winning a Yorkshire League medal with them in his first season. After making 83 appearances, scoring 14 tries, kicking 159 goals and two drop goals, he left for Salford, where he was an equally good goal-kicker in the pre-David Watkins era, scoring 114 in just 38 appearances, also going over for 11 tries. He later turned out for Featherstone Rovers and coached Dewsbury.
