Born in 1907, Billy Thomas played rugby union for Swansea between 1928 and 1929 before turning professional with York. With York, he won a Yorkshire Cup medal in 1936 and also had the honour of leading the side out at Wembley in 1931 but they lost the Challenge Cup Final to Halifax. In addition to his Wales cap, he also played twice for Glamorgan and Monmouthshire in the County Championship, once for Other Nationalities (against England) and took part in a public trial match for the 1932 Great Britain tour, playing for "Great Britain Whites" against the Reds in a match played in Huddersfield, but he didn't go on the tour in the end. An engineer by trade, he died in York in 1972.
