Lionel Emmitt played rugby union for his native Bridgend before turning professional with Oldham in 1952, where he played 36 times scoring 21 tries. He later played for Blackpool Borough and Leigh. Remaining in the area, he died on February 1, 2004 but his grandson Jake Emmitt would also go on to play for Wales.
