Steve Bayliss played rugby union for Ystradgynlais and Neath, turning professional with St Helens in 1980. He played an A team trial in February before making his first team debut in March. He played 42 matches for the Saints and scored 16 tries. He moved to Fulham in 1982 and also had a season with Lezignan Sangliers in France in 1986. Alex Murphy brought him back to St Helens in 1987 when he played a further 10 games. He later returned to Wales where he became a rugby union coach.
