In addition to his 15 Welsh caps, Joe Jones played once for Great Britain, which was against New Zealand in 1946. Born in Cilfynydd, he played for his local rugby union club right up until he was signed by Wigan in 1936. There, he helped Wigan to a Championship Final win in 1944 against Dewsbury, playing in the first leg but he was replaced by Jim Sullivan for the second leg. Wigan won both games. He also won a Lancashire League medal during the World War II affected 1940–41 season. After 113 appearances for Wigan, scoring seven tries and kicking 41 goals, he transferred to Barrow, where he made 221 appearances. He died in Barrow-in-Furness on 11 January 1974, aged 57.
