Mark Perrett qualified to play for Wales via the heritage rule and turned out for us in the 1995 Rugby League World Cup and the 1996 World 9s. He also started both games in the 1995 European Championship where Wales won the trophy. Starting off at Halifax-based amateur club Ovenden, he signed for Halifax RLFC a month after his 18th birthday and made his debut, against St Helens, just weeks later. He had previously trained with Leeds, but Halifax snapped him up after he scored a try from the half-way line in a trial match for their reserves against Featherstone Rovers. He was soon selected for Great Britain U21 and won caps against France U21 and the full Australian Kangaroos touring side, the former alongside fellow future Wales internationals Daio Powell, Iestyn Harris and Gareth Stephens. After six years at Halifax, which included 19 matches in Super League, he spent the 1999 season with Oldham, before returning to the community game with Ovenden, where he eventually took over as head coach after having to retire due to injury. After a few years, he also gave rugby union a go with Halifax RUFC where he was playing into his late 30s alongside his brother Michael. After playing professional rugby league, he trained and worked as an electrician.
