Match Report
It was a special night in Cumbria to not only honour Kyle Amor with his testimonial but to say farewell to both Dan Fleming and Brian Juliff.
Fleming was retiring from playing professional rugby league and he celebrated his final outing by captaining this Wales Chairman's XIII against Cumbria, whilst Juliff was performing his final duties as chairman after over 11 years at the helm.
The Wales Chairman's XIII shirts had the "Anthony Nolan" charity emblazoned on the front. This is because of Brian Juliff's wife Anne, who has been diagnosed with Myelofibrosis, a very rare form of blood cancer, and she has been supporting the charity with their work to attract more donors by telling her story. The charity will also be on the front of the women’s team when they face France and England over the next few weeks.
The match itself rightly saw Amor kick the final points of the game for his Cumbria side, and they opened the scoring through an Andrew Bullman try.
Jamie Doran added to the lead just short of the halfhour mark, with a dummy-half scoot and a show-and-go fooling the Welsh defence.
The final score of the half came from interchange hooker Alistair Leak, who was the quickest to react when a Cumbrian pass went awry and hit the floor. All tries were converted by Jamie Carter, putting Cumbria 18-0 up.
Connor Davies hit back for the Welsh for their only score of the game with Gregg McNally later addressing the balance before Amor completed proceedings.
