18 v 28
Pandy Park, Cross Keys
The first ever A international between Scotland and Wales, played at the Cross Keys club in Wales, resulted in victory for the Scots.
The more experienced Scots, led by former Leeds and Great Britain prop Hugh Waddell, were first to score when Pete Manning finished off a fourth minute move before adding the conversion.
Wales, featuring several former Cardiff Demons academy players, fought back with a try from UWIC winger Wayne Williams but Scotland responded immediately with Lomond Valley captain Gregor Tilley running 75 metres before passing inside for prop Alan Manson to score.
Scotland led 14-8 at the break after Manning kicked a penalty for ball-stealing after Wales prop Nick Romanello cut the deficit with a try.
Three minutes into the second half, Scotland played an excellent set of six which resulted in a length of the field movement topped off by a try from player-coach and former Salford stand-off Tony Howard.
They sealed their win with further tries from Mark Carberry and Manning, who completed his hat-trick.
Craig Clements added a try for Wales and a late rally earned them a final score from Andy Phillips with three minutes remaining.
