Martin Turner - Centre
Wales Wheelchair
Martin first joined the Wales squad ahead of the 2024 Celtic Cup. His Welsh heritage is through his dad, who was born and raised in the Rhymney valley. Martin first started playing Wheelchair Rugby League in late 2022 at a North Wales Crusaders taster session following the World Cup. He was a fundamental part of the ‘A’ team and later also the first team in the successful Crusaders 2023 haul of five trophies, also going on to captain the side in the inaugural Welsh League season.
Martin has no mobility impairment but has suffered from chronic depression since childhood. He has found rugby league to be one of the very best therapies and enthusiastically plays Masters Rugby League alongside the wheelchair code.
Away from playing the game, Martin hit the headlines in 2024 by competing in the London Marathon in a wheelchair that was dressed up as a rhino, as he helped to raise money for the Save the Rhino charity. He completed the course in 5 hours 45 minutes.
