A product of the St Helens academy, Matty qualifies for Wales via the heritage rule and played in the 2017 World Cup. Playing just the one Super League game for Saints, which was in 2014, he went out on loan spells with Batley Bulldogs and Rochdale Hornets in 2015. In 2016, Matty made a permanent move to Sheffield Eagles where he scored 28 tries and kicked six goals in 94 games before moving to London Broncos in 2019.
