A product of the St Helens academy, Matty qualifies for Wales via the heritage rule and played in the 2017 and 2022 World Cups. Playing just the one Super League game for Saints, which was in 2014, he went out on loan spells with Batley Bulldogs and Rochdale Hornets in 2015. In 2016, Matty made a permanent move to Sheffield Eagles where he scored 29 tries and kicked six goals in 94 games before moving to London Broncos in 2019. In the capital, he was a regular in Super League in his first season, making 23 appearances. He ended up on 42 appearances for Broncos, scoring eight tries and kicking two goals, and moved to Widnes Vikings for 2022. He's now reached a career total of 200 plus games and scored over 50 tries.
