Brought up in North Wales, with Welsh being his first language, Huw Worthington went through the RGC1404 system in rugby union, coming through the RGC1404 system in North Wales, playing for their junior sides and making over 100 appearances for their first team. He was signed by Newport Gwent Dragons in 2017, making two first team appearances and also turning out for Crawshays. He joined Bedford Blues midway through the 2017/18 season, playing there for nearly three years before moving to fellow RFU Championship side Richmond. During the pandemic, he watched a lot of rugby league on TV and decided he wanted to play that game. So he moved to Sydney to learn and ended up signing for Ron Massey Cup side (third level in Australia) Glebe Dirty Reds. In 2023, he joined Sydney Roosters and played a few games in their reserves in the NSW Cup before personal circumstances forced him to return to Britain. He joined Leeds Rhinos but didn't break into their first team, instead turning out on loan at Widnes Vikings, making three appearances and playing for Wales in a friendly match against Cumbria. Following that match, he played a handful more games in rugby union with RGC before being signed by Whitehaven for the 2024 season. In 2024, he was named in the Wales squad for the qualifiers for the next World Cup.
