Ray Wilkins learned his rugby in the Afan Valley in Abergwynfi, winning Wales U15 and Youth caps in rugby union, captaining the former. He played over 50 times for Aberavon from 1969-71 before turning professional with Workington Town, remaining there for 11 years, scoring a try in their 1977 Lancashire Cup Final win over Wigan. In addition to his two Welsh caps, he played three times for Other Nationalities in the 1974 County Championship. A brief spell with Blackpool Borough followed after his Workington career. He moved to Yorkshire for work in 1984 and a year later to the Midlands, where he's lived ever since. He has run a small business since 1988 and started playing tennis in the same year. He has played Birmingham league tennis for 15 years, representing Warwickshire vets once. At the same multi-sports club, he played field hockey for eight seasons. He continues to play golf.
