A Wales RU youth international while at Swansea, Peter Rowe turned professional with Wigan in 1966. His final game for Swansea was against Llanelli on October 8th and the following day, Wigan asked Llanelli's Barry John to sign. He said no, so later that day, they visited Peter and the deal was done. On his debut, he played at centre to Billy Boston and ended up making 212 appearances for the club over seven years, one of which was in the club's 1968 BBC2 Floodlit Trophy Final win over St Helens. Lancashire Cup honours followed in 1969, whilst Wigan were League Leaders in 1971 whilst also winning the Lancashire League and Cup. He later had spells at Blackpool Borough, Huddersfield and Cardiff City Blue Dragons. In addition to his Welsh caps, he also played County Cup matches for Other Nationalities. Retiring from playing in 1983, he is not be confused with the rugby league writer, CEO and media manager with the same name. Our Peter Rowe coached rugby union with Orrell, despite there being a supposed ban on RL players returning to union, whilst working for British Telecom for 40 years. He married a Wigan girl in 1968 and at 2020, was still living in the town.
