Lynn Hopkins played rugby union for Neath and De La Salle College, where he was the leading points scorer for three seasons. He turned professional with Workington Town in 1979 and was a popular player over his five years in Cumbria. His best season was 1981-82 when he kicked 186 goals, beating the old club record by 48, with 438 points for the season a staggering 132 more than the previous club best, and scoring in all but one of Town’s games that season. He played a total of 99 games for Town, scoring 44 tries, 365 goals and putting over four drop-goals to amass a total of 872 points. In 1984, he left for a brief stay with the new club Kent Invicta where he clocked up another 140 points for them, but when he retired, he came back to live and work in the Workington area.
