Qualified for Wales via the heritage ruling, Jon played in the old First Division with Hull FC, but when they finished below the cut-off point to qualify for the inaugural Super League, he lost his only chance to play in the summer era's flagship competition, seeing out the next 12 seasons at the second level of UK rugby league. On retirement, he became a Safety Professional and an Offshore HSE Advisor.
