Born in the south of England, Ian Marlow was brought up in rugby union, but it was when he moved to the north and played for Beverley RU, he was spotted by Hull FC scouts. He remained there for three years, helping Hull to a Premiership Final win over Widnes in 1991. In 1993, he joined Wakefield Trinity. After retiring from rugby league, he became a civil servant in Yorkshire.
