In addition to his Wales caps, Charles Winslade won a single cap for Great Britain. His first representative game in Rugby League was for a Commonwealth XIII. He started off at Maesteg RFC, represented Wales in rugby union at schoolboy level, been capped four times by Glamorgan County and was thought to be on the verge of full international honours. But in October 1950, he turned professional with Oldham. There he became one of their most popular players ever, playing there until 1963, making 358 appearances and scoring 30 tries and two goals. During his career at Oldham, they topped the League table in both the 1956-57 season and the 1957-58 season, winning the Championship title in the Play-off Final of 1956-57. They also won the Lancashire County Cup (see below) three times in 1955–56, 1956–57 and 1957–58, and was champions of the Lancashire League twice in 1956–57 and 1957–58. He played his last match for Oldham on Saturday 14 October 1961, before being transferred to Warrington where we made 159 appearances and scoring one try. There he helped them win the 1965 Lancashire Cup Final. Finally, he was transferred to Leigh, where he played just seven games before retirement. After his death on October 6, 1993 in Cardiff, his ashes were scattered at Watersheddings, showing the depth of affection felt for Oldham RLFC by this great servant of the club. Winslade Close in Oldham is named after him.
