Dai Royston Bevan was born in Pontypridd and played locally before moving north and turned out for Oldham RUFC. In Rugby League, he first played for Belle Vue Rangers, before signing for Wigan in 1952. Later that year, he won his only Great Britain cap as he played against the touring Australia Kanagaroos. He pulled on a Wales shirt three times, but only the final one was a cap, his appearance against England in 1953. By that time, he'd signed for Halifax and he turned out for them in the 1954 Challenge Cup Final against Warrington at Wembley. They drew 4-4 but Warrington won the replay at Odsal in front of a world record crowd of 102,575 or more. Following his retirement from rugby league, Dai Bevan lived in Middleton near Rochdale, and became a teacher at Moorclose School (now named Middleton Technical School), he died on 12 April 2008, aged 80, in Heywood near Rochdale.
