Trevor Skerrett captained Wales in his final cap in 1984, becoming the nation's 32nd skipper. In addition to his seven Welsh caps, he won ten for Great Britain after initially playing for the Great Britain U24 side. He toured with the 1979 Lions to Australia and New Zealand. Hailing from the Belle Isle area of Leeds, Trevor qualified for Wales through his mother. He started his rugby league with Bisons Sports ARL before signing for Wakefield Trinity as a 20-year-old in August 1974. He débuted within a few weeks, coming off the substitutes bench in a 12-12 home draw with Castleford. In 1980, he was transferred to Hull FC for a then record £40,000 fee. He played 203 Trinity first team games in his six seasons, scoring 26 tries. He was inducted into the club's Hall of Fame in 2015. Trevor played 160 games for Hull playing in nine finals, winning four, as well as picking up a 1983 League Championship medal. He also represented Yorkshire three times whilst at Hull. He was transferred to Leeds in September 1986 in a deal that saw Kevin Dick join Hull FC, Andy Gascoigne also joined Skerrett at Leeds in the deal. In his only season, he played 27 games, scoring one try. In August 1987, he was transferred to Keighley where he made 57 appearances before retiring in 1989. His nephew Kelvin also played for and captained Wales.
