Hywel Davies started in local rugby union in Wales with Maesteg whilst also turning out for Bridgend Blue Bulls in the summer. He was soon noticed by Celtic Crusaders and played for them in their two years in National League Two, making 53 appearances and scoring five tries. He wasn't kept on for 2008 so went back to rugby union with Llandovery and then Tondu. He later joined South Wales Scorpions, first as assistant coach, but took to the field again in 2011, making 13 appearances. A teacher by trade, he has since coached at youth and schools level.
