Barry Eaton played five times for Wales between 1999 and 2001, one of the caps being a 2000 World Cup appearance against New Zealand at the Millennium Stadium. However his affiliation with Wales didn't end there. He was appointed Crusaders' assistant coach when they moved to Wrexham in 2010 and was also the Wales U18 head coach in 2012-13. As a schoolboy, Barry played rugby league for Stanley Rangers but also had an apprenticeship in the 11-man game with Barnsley from 1990 to 1992. He switched back to RL in 1993, joining Doncaster and helping them to promotion to the old First Division. Following a brief spell at Wakefield in the RFL's centenary season in 1995, he spent six seasons at Dewsbury Rams. There, he helped them to the 2000 Northern Ford Premiership and Trans-Pennine Cup double, scoring in every game, but they were refused promotion due to their small ground capacity. He finished 2000 by playing in the Super League with Castleford Tigers before joining Widnes Vikings for 2001. Joining Batley Bulldogs in 2002, he set a new world by landing 38 consecutive successful goal kicks between 29 June and 24 August 2003. He joined Keighley Cougars as player-coach in 2005, staying there as a player for three years, before coaching only for a further two, leading them to promotion from Championship 1 in the first. After the old Crusaders club went under in 2011, he was head coach at Hunslet for three seasons before been appointed assistant coach at Leeds Rhinos, where he also works at their Foundation to help raise standards in the community game. His nephew Danny Ansell is also a Welsh international.
