Michael Jenkins played for Wales in the 2000 World Cup. Australian-born, he played first class for Gold Coast Chargers and Newcastle Knights before going to England to accompany close friend Evan Cochrane who had signed for Workington Town. After half a season playing at Workington Town himself, an offer was received from Super League club Gateshead Thunder, who signed him for £15,000. After Hull FC swallowed up Gateshead and took their place in Super League, he played there for a season before returning to Australia. He later became the CEO and founder of League Ready Australia, an online programme designed to help juniors cross over into the NRL.
